Experience the beautiful Taumarere River from one of our vintage carriages this winter and enjoy a delicious sweet/savoury combo from our Railway Station Cafe menu or cabinet.
Experience the history and nostalgia of vintage rail and breathtaking scenery. Local Guards on every journey share the local history and personal connection to the railway and our beautiful environment.
Scheduled Trains depart Kawakawa station at 12:30PM, every Wednesday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday in winter through to 245h September.
We stop at Taumarere Station (to pick up bikers/walkers) and finish at Whangae Tunnel located approximately 2/3 point between Kawakawa to Opua. The returning train will also stop at Taumarere before completing the trip at Kawakawa Station. It takes approximately 120 minutes for the full return trip to Kawakawa. Note there is a 10-minute photo stop at Taumarere, neither location can be reached by car. You can only train, walk or cycle into these historic sites.

Combo includes a selection of hot or cold drink, and a sweet or savoury selection from our Railway Station Cafe cabinet to be redeemed day of travel, before the train departs.
Combo Voucher given out at the Station Ticket Office when you check in for your train to be redeemed at cafe.
Standard Coffee/Tea or cold drink, up to the value of $6.00. Special milks, extra shot, frappes or smoothies include additional charge..
Cafe open 8:00AM-2:30PM seven days.
